My name is Mrs. Melissa Oliver and this is my twenty- sixth year teaching and my nineteenth year teaching at Richland Elementary! I am a graduate of IUP where I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. with a Reading Specialist Certification. In addition, I also completed the ESL Program Specialist Certification through the IU8 in 2011.

My teaching career began at West End Catholic School where I spent 3 years teaching Second Grade. As a graduate of the Conemaugh Township Area School District, I was excited to spend 4 years teaching there in Fourth Grade, Third Grade, and as a Reading Specialist before being hired at Richland as a Reading Specialist. In addition to working as a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have also worked as a Third Grade Teacher and as an English Language Development Teacher for our students who are English Language Learners.

I live in Richland with my husband, Mike, and my two children, Madelyn and Mason.  Madelyn is in graduate school at IUP after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh last April.  Mason is a freshman at Saint Francis University after graduating from RHS last May.   We are all so excited about the 2024-2025 school year!

We enjoyed a visit from a former student today!  She was here for the 3rd Grade Leadership program that comes to help with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students in the mornings before announcements!  We appreciate the help so much!
One of our 4th grade students earned the GOLDEN TICKET today.  She is very kind and helpful to other students.  She was very helpful to the substitute yesterday!

Your child's progress report was sent home today!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!  Have a great summer!

Miss Anderson from UPJ came to visit and did a lesson about capital letters.  We searched the classroom for as many uppercase letters as we could find!
