Welcome, Olive Ann!

We are excited to share a wonderful new addition to our school community: a certified therapy dog! Olive Ann is a well-trained and certified companion who will work alongside our staff to enhance the learning experience, promote emotional well-being, and create a more supportive atmosphere for everyone. The presence of a therapy dog in schools has been shown to offer numerous benefits for students, staff, and the broader school environment.

Why a Therapy Dog?
Research highlights that therapy dogs in schools can:

    • Reduce Stress and Anxiety: Their calming presence can help students manage anxiety and improve focus.
  • Improve Physical and Social-Emotional Well-Being:  Physically interacting with a therapy dog can lower blood pressure, promote relaxation, and encourage movement, benefiting overall health. Interacting with a therapy dog fosters empathy, responsibility, and emotional regulation.
  • Support Learning and Increase Academic Achievement: Reading programs with therapy dogs improve literacy by making reading sessions more engaging and less intimidating.
  • Boost Morale and Improve Self-Esteem: A therapy dog brings joy and positivity to the school environment and builds kindness and empathy in students.
  • How Will It Work?
Olive Ann will participate in structured programs, such as one-on-one sessions with students, group activities, classroom visits, and provide an incentive for students to earn time. All interactions will follow strict safety protocols to ensure a positive and hygienic experience for our school community.

Health and Safety
The therapy dog is regularly groomed, vaccinated, and monitored for health to ensure cleanliness and safety. Students with allergies, sensitivities, or fears will have accommodations, and no student will interact with the dog without consent.

We’re thrilled to offer this enriching experience and welcome any questions or feedback you may have. If you would like more information or have specific concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your building principal.
