Dear Families,
As forecasts predict wintry weather beginning today and extending through the weekend, we want to remind you of our procedures for communicating any changes to the school schedule. Your child's safety is our top priority, and we aim to keep everyone well-informed and prepared.
How We’ll Notify You
If a school delay or closure is necessary, updates will be shared through these channels:
-
Emergency Notification System
- Automated calls, texts, and emails will be sent to the primary contact numbers listed in PowerSchool.
-
District Website & Social Media
- Visit www.richlandsd.com or follow our official social media accounts for real-time updates.
-
Local TV and Radio
- Announcements will be made on local TV channels and Radio stations.
Important Information
-
Timing of Notifications:
- Notifications are typically sent no later than 10:00 p.m. the night before or no earlier than 5:30 a.m. the day of a delay or closure.
-
Cancellations:
- If school is canceled, most after-school and evening activities will also be canceled. Please check the website for the latest updates.
-
No Remote Days:
- We will not implement remote instruction on snow days. We value the importance of in-person learning and recognize the challenges remote days pose for families. Traditional snow days will allow everyone to stay safe and return refreshed for in-person instruction.
For Student Drivers
Student drivers should exercise extreme caution when traveling to and from school during snowy or icy conditions. Here are some important reminders:
- Allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
- Drive slowly and maintain a greater following distance from other vehicles.
- Be cautious on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, as they can be especially slippery.
- Keep your car’s windows, mirrors, and lights clear of snow and ice for maximum visibility.
- If conditions feel unsafe, prioritize your safety and contact the school office to report your late arrival.
Parents, please encourage your teen drivers to take these precautions seriously to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Dress for Winter Weather
Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the season. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and boots are essential for cold and snowy conditions, whether they’re waiting at the bus stop or playing outside at recess.
Keeping Your Contact Information Updated
The effectiveness of our notification system relies on having up-to-date contact information. If your phone number or email address has changed, please notify your child’s school as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we navigate the winter months. Stay connected through PowerSchool and our other communication channels for the most accurate and timely updates.
Mr. Arnold J. Nadonley
Superintendent
